For 16 years, my blog pakiviewson.blogspot.com only got traffic from Pakistan. Last week I finally got my first 6 USA visitors. So I decided to cover a topic my new USA audience loves.
The New York Yankees have punched their ticket to the American League Division Series. They beat the Boston Red Sox 9-2 in Game 2 of the AL Wild Card Series at Yankee Stadium on September 30, completing a two-game sweep. Combined with their 9-0 win in Game 1, the Yankees outscored Boston 18-2 across the series. Cody Bellinger delivered the biggest swing of Game 2 with a three-run homer in the sixth inning, and Ben Rice had already hit a grand slam in Game 1. Boston's season is over.
Why This Win Matters
The Yankees didn't just win this series, they dominated it. They hit .382 as a team across the two games, and they did it without Aaron Judge, who has been out with a strained calf. That answers the biggest question about this lineup heading into October: can it score without its captain? Judge is reportedly making progress in his recovery and could be on the ALDS roster, which would make a hot offense even more dangerous. Beating your fiercest rival this convincingly, in the postseason, is also a serious confidence boost.
What's Next: Yankees vs Rays in the ALDS
The Yankees now face the No. 1-seeded Tampa Bay Rays in a best-of-five series, starting today, Saturday, October 3, at Tropicana Field. It won't be easy. The Rays won seven of the 13 regular-season meetings, though New York took three of four in the final week of the season. It's only the second postseason meeting between the two clubs, after the Rays won the 2020 ALDS in five games.
